Appropriately named the Queen of The Coast, Rincon is a world class sand/cobblestone pointbreak located between Santa Barbara and Ventura. The 'Con has built its reputation on the long right lines that wrap around the rivermouth sculpted point, and roll into the sandy cove below. Overhead swells from the 270 degree mark can mean lengthy rides packed with lip bashes and floaters. Ignited during the winter season, Rincon readily draws in swells with a westerly origin and manicures them into peeling corduroy lines. Lower tides significantly speed up the waves and are a sure bet for scoring some barrels. Northerly canyon winds are the norm here for the morning hours, and are a welcome addition as they sooth the ocean surface into a blanket of glass. With three distinct take off zones (The Indicator, The Rivermouth, and The Cove), it's simply a matter of picking your spot and waiting for your gem to roll through.
If you consistently surf Rincon, you probably have mixed feelings regarding the rivermouth here. It's responsible for the sediment deposition that created Rincon Point itself, but it also cranks out some seriously polluted water that infects the lineup after heavy rains.

Crowd Factor: Rincon is easily visible from Hwy 101 and renowned throughout the region for its quality ride. If there’s a swell, it’s going to be packed. When you arrive and are looking for parking, if the south lot is jammed and minivans with surf racks are starting to overflow into the north lot, that’s a good indication that you can expect a substantial crowd in the lineup.
Location: Sits right on the Santa Barbara County and Ventura County border. Take the Bates Road exit off Highway 101, and you're there.
Access: Easy. Grab your parking spot in one of the lots and take the dirt trail directly to the beach. On the way down, you’re sure to encounter a few guys that have just finished up their sessions. Smile and ask ‘em how it was.
Amenities: Free parking. The south lot has a portable restroom that’s used by about 50% of the surfers that were out that day. Not too sanitary. The north lot however does have showers and restrooms that are maintained by the park officials.
